Power Market Update – 14th February 2020

February 14 2020

The beginning of the week saw almost 5000 homes still without power as Storm Ciara brought 97mph winds and 6 weeks of rain in 2 days. However, a positive for wind generation as it hit 42% over the weekend during the storm.

Although there has been higher demand on grid due to colder weather (and more set to come) the UK temperature is still dramatically above seasonal norms. The UK Gas market continues to fall amid fears of continued weaker LNG demand from Asia. 9 LNG tankers due to arrive the UK before the end of the month with a total of 25 coming to northern Europe.

The UK Power market has pretty flat over the past 2 weeks with a slight increase over the past 3 days which is the first time since mid December ‘19, however this is minimal in comparison to the decline in the value of power seen in January ’20.
